Firing Up Brookfield Scouts
Atco Steel Developments & United Steel helping out Brookfield Scouts
Apr 14, 2021
United Steel is pleased to have had the opportunity to
donate the Corten Plate used in Brookfield
Outdoor Education Centre’s new outdoor fire places.
The Corten Plate was provided to Atco Steel Developments, who fabricated
the plate into Braziers. Atco Steel
Developments has been part of the Wellington Structural Steel Fabrication scene
since 1939. This job was just a tad smaller that Atco Steel’s usual projects, but it was all done
for a good cause.
The Braziers allow the Brookfield Outdoor Education Centre
users to continue to enjoy the pleasures of sitting around an open fire, while
remaining safe with the logs now unable to roll out of the fire.
The Brookfield Outdoor Education Centre has a long history
of providing New Zealanders with various outdoor experiences. The land was bequeathed
to Scouting NZ in 1958, following the death of Mary Crowther. Mary befriended the Nelson brothers, who just
after WW1 could often be found maintaining the property or bringing their Scout
Troop across the Wainuiomata Hill to camp on the property. This began a long association between the
property and Scouts Aotearoa.
