Hitch For Hope - Supporting the I AM HOPE Charitable Trust
United Industries Team Hitchhiking length of NZ to support Mental Health Charity
May 25, 2021
A team from the United Industries group of companies, which includes United Steel, are Hitchhiking the length of NZ this week.
This journey is being done to raise money for the I AM HOPE Charitable Trust and awareness for this Friday's Gumboot day.
The motivation for this journey came from hearing our Wellington Branch Manager Aroha talk, at our recent company Health & Safety conference, about the tragic loss of her daughter Jacinta and the importance of caring for mental health.
The I AM HOPE Charitable Trust works to bring about positive societal change around mental health, and funds private care and counselling for young people.
In 2019/2020, Kiwi’s raised 2 million dollars and funded 15,500 counselling sessions for young people in New Zealand.
We would like to encourage you to support I AM HOPE, and our team, by contributing on our team's givealittle Donation Page
United Industries are matching dollar for dollar everything raised on this campaign.
We have set a $50,000 fundraising target.
The anticipated itinerary of our team of hitchhikers is:
- Saturday 22nd - Team start at Cape Reinga
- Sunday 23rd – Auckland
- Tuesday 25th - Arrive in Wellington
- Wednesday 26th - Travel to Picton by ferry
- Thursday 27th - Arrive in Christchurch
- Friday 28th – National GUMBOOT FRIDAY
- Monday 31st – Team Finish at Bluff
If you see them on the road we are sure they would appreciate your encouragement, support and possibly even a lift.
